Our organisations offer plenty of opportunities for undergraduate students to gain experience of work in the public sector in Suffolk. Internship placements are available at Suffolk County Council, Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils, West Suffolk Council and East Suffolk Council.
Our Summer Internships last 12 weeks and are available to undergraduate students in any year of their course. We also offer students in their penultimate year of study the chance to apply for a ‘Year in Industry’ in the form of a 12-month Industrial Placement before returning to university.
Placements are available across multiple departments and availability may change from year to year. These might include (but are not limited to):
- Trading Standards
- Public Health
- Adult and Community Services
Your placement will involve working on meaningful projects and tasks for your specific directorate as well as taking part in a group project with the other interns in your cohort. You will also develop your skills through a series of employability workshops and online courses, adding not only to your CV, but also to your own personal development.
You will have regular reviews with your Placement Manager during your programme who will give you feedback on your work and ensure that you are getting as much as possible from your placement.
Your internship will be paid at the National Minimum Wage, and you will have access to staff benefits including flexible working, occupational health support and travel discounts.
To see examples of the type of work you may be involved in, see our interns’ blog posts.
You can also visit our meet the interns page to explore what past interns have to say about their placements, as well as the skills they have developed through the programme.
Check out the jobs board on the Rising High homepage to see whether we are currently advertising for our internship programme and submit an application.
