Do you share our determination to give the most vulnerable children and young people the best chances to succeed and thrive in their adult lives?

As an LSA you will support children and young people who have experienced difficulty in learning in mainstream school.

You will be someone who has a creative and flexible approach to supporting children and young people with a range of SEND and SEMH needs, encouraging them to reach their full potential. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who can work with students from age 7 - 16, supporting them across a broad range of subjects and activities at our academy.

We're looking for enthusiastic candidates to:

  • support children and young people who have experienced difficulty in learning in mainstream school to access and engage with lessons
  • co-plan lessons with teachers to ensure that all sessions are differentiated and personalised for the pupils' needs
  • help our students develop confidence, skills and knowledge to believe that they can be successful in their own lives
  • forge positive and mutually respectful relationships with colleagues and students
  • be a role model to our students showing resilience, leadership and empathy
  • use the 'Dare to be Olive' approach to ensure that high expectations for behaviour are maintained
  • demonstrate reflective practice and ability to adapt and improve your own practice
  • follow guidance and take direction from teachers and other professionals to best support each student.
  • communicate effectively and sensitively with students and their families.

We're keen to play to your strengths - if you have a speciality in a particular Intervention Delivery Programme, e.g. Outdoor Learning, Reading Recovery or Catch Up Numeracy, please tell us about it.

You will contribute to the development of positive and safe learning environments:

  • understand and implement OA's safeguarding policy and procedures, and keeping Children Safe in Education
  • maintain a good working knowledge of current safeguarding practice when working with vulnerable young people
  • have a good working knowledge of barriers to learning many of our students face, such as SEND or SEMH needs
  • contribute to assessment and planning, including the production of learning resources
  • acquire a level of subject and curriculum knowledge which is appropriate to your role
  • able to support students with literacy and numeracy
  • contribute to the annual reviews of pupils with EHCPs
  • take on the role of coach to individual students, mentoring them through their time at the academy.

You will fulfil wider professional responsibilities:

  • aid the day to day running of the academy by participating in supervision duties
  • support the trust's values and ethos by contributing to the development and implementation of policies, practices and procedures
  • take a flexible approach to the role, ensuring students' needs are always at the forefront of your work.

The duties above are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and you may be required by the headteacher to carry out appropriate duties within the context of the job, skills and grade.
