Liberty Lodge is an independent school registered with Ofsted for 6 pupils and offers a highly personalised programme of learning shaped around individual needs to children and young people who have experienced significant trauma in life and have disengaged from mainstream settings. An SEN provision, we work with young people with a range of complex need including autism spectrum, and its co-morbid conditions.

We are seeking to recruit a qualified, experienced and outstanding teacher to lead the day to day running of the school and deliver inspiring cross curricular education including a core subject such as English or mathematics.

We are a very small alternative independent school which is embarking upon an exciting phase of transformation and is looking for a dedicated, talented, creative and resilient person to be part of shaping the school’s future. 

Key skills, knowledge and experience

  • A relevant degree and QTS
  • Subject specialist and experience of teaching English and/or mathematics at Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Outstanding knowledge and experience of as well as sensitivity to supporting pupils with a highly complex learning profile: special educational needs and disability (for example: cognitive or learning difficulties, behaviour, emotional and social development, autism spectrum and other co-morbid conditions)
  • Strong working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Self-confidence and presence with proven understanding and experience of managing challenging and/or resistant behaviour
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils, adults and other professionals
  • Strong knowledge of, and a creative and innovative approach to, adapting the curriculum to meet individual and complex needs
  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Active listening skills, flexibility of approach and resilience
  • Exemplary safeguarding practice with experience of the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Alternate/Deputy (ADSL or DDSL)
  • Strong ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning
  • Full driving licence
